Saves, backups & codes
Your whole profile (progress, settings, saved songs, drafts, playlists, achievements, coins) lives on your device. Three rows in Settings → GAME move it around, and they work in the demo too, because your progress is yours.
BACKUP SAVE
Writes everything to a single file named like randommix-save-2026-08-03.rmxsave through your platform's normal save or share flow: a save dialog on desktop, the share sheet on phones, a download in browsers.
COPY SAVE CODE
The same profile as one long text string on your clipboard. Paste it anywhere a file is awkward: a note app, a message to yourself, another device.
IMPORT SAVE
Paste a save code or pick a .rmxsave file. The game validates it, shows you what is inside ("Import 12 saved songs, 340 coins and 85 completed songs?"), and backs up your current save locally before replacing anything. Importing is a full replace, not a merge, and a failed import rolls back cleanly. The game reloads after.
Steam Cloud
The desktop version on Steam also mirrors your profile to Steam Cloud automatically, so a fresh install or a second PC picks up where you left off. The local backup rows still work there and make good belt-and-braces before big experiments.
Share codes (RMX1)
Separate from your profile: a share code is one song as text. It packs the song's seed plus every edit (rerolls, beat grid, knobs, melody, mutes), and any copy of the game rebuilds that exact track from it, offline, deterministically. Copy it from the SHARE panel, or save it as a tiny .rmx file. CREATE projects have a bigger sibling, RMX2 project codes, which reopen the full editing session. Codes are a full-version feature; the demo explains them and plays nothing from them.
Good habits
- Back up before importing someone else's save or resetting anything.
- A save code in a note app is the fastest cross-device move; the .rmxsave file is the tidier archive.
- Share codes of your favorite tracks are their own backup: keep the codes and the songs are safe even without the profile.
